Each blank is fitted with super-lightweight, tri-light guides, TiCs, starting with a 50mm butt. The reel seat is machined aluminium and has been anodised to match Shimano's Baitrunner Spool reels. Similarly, the rear grip is also made from machined aluminium and features a laser-etched butt cap sporting the Tribal logo. The handle of the Tribal XTB rod, between the reel seat and rear grip, is covered with shrink-wrap and has a subtle, but useful, rod-pod stopper on the underside, roughly 21/2 inches behind the reel seat. Shimano have been championing Butterfly Jigging for some years now and the level of interest and take-up is growing rapidly due to its simplicity and effectiveness. The technique itself is not complicated - just different. It has nothing to do with traditional pirking, where you move your pirk over a limited column of water. Butterfly jigging covers far more water, the average lift being from around 10 to 30 meters of water. So what happens next? The special jigs are unbalanced and will move side ward. It's similar to the surface lure technique known as 'walking the dog' only you're fishing in a vertical water column rather than horizontally. Numerous saltwater species are tripping up to butterfly jigs, producing hammering bites on relatively light tackle. Species we never thought would hunt in this way, such as Pollack and big Cod are falling victim. One advantage of butterfly jigging is that you do not need live or dead bait. A few jigs are all that the technique demands heavy duty reels and rods. A simple spinning reel or multiplier will probably die on the first trip. For multiplier reels, the Torsa, Trinidad and Torium are all up to the job whilst Stella SW, Navi PG, Saragossa & Spheros fixed spool reels are also suitable.
